Laboratory Planning
  • iDesign worked closely with Gage Products to design and build a safe testing lab for fuel octane blends, the first of its kind in the State of Michigan.

  • The main area of the laboratory is designed to house 2 engines and the addition of a third in the future. The suite is designed with static-controlled flooring, a chemical fire suppression system, a new HVAC and cooling system and service to support fuel blending and engine testing activities.

  • The most complicated part of the project is the hazardous material storage facility designed to house Class 1A combustible liquids. It is NFPA 68 compliant and with the exception of an emergency generator, is NFPA 69 compliant for preventing ignition sources, Class 1 Div 1 electrical serves, spill containment, structural deflagration pressure resistance including blast relief panels along an exterior wall. The storage room also functions as a dispensing room with active use drums piped through the wall to the blend and dispensing station.
